Everything you need to know to get your homestead growing. All of our Homesteading workshops Classes will be offered at 2 different times, in two different locations. Land Preparation September 19, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 at Halifax Extension Office What’s one of the most important and least thought about components of your garden and pasture? Likely your soils, learn about soil health and how to get your soil in shape for an excellent garden or pasture this year.

Gardening September 26, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 at Northampton County Extension Office When should we plant this vegetable? What vegetables will grow at my house? Learn about the vegetables and herbs that grow well in our area and how to properly care for them in your garden.

Food Preservation October 3, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 at Northampton County Extension Office  What do you do with the bounty you produce off a small garden? This workshop is designed for those who wish to learn about freezing, canning, drying as a home food preservation method and don’t want to waste all the vegetables they worked so hard to produce.

Poultry Production and Small Scale Livestock Production October 10, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 at Halifax County Extension Office Eggs and meat prices are steady on the rise. Is it possible to raise bird and eggs in your backyard? Come to learn how to raise them and how to market them if you have extras. Small scale livestock production is growing in popularity, but is it practical to raise livestock in the backyard? It could be, join us and you will learn some basics on animal production and the rules around selling the meat you produce.
