In Onslow County, ensuring top-notch food safety standards is a priority. Recognizing the crucial role food managers play in maintaining these standards, Onslow Family & Consumer Sciences Agents are now offering a comprehensive training program for Retail Food Protection Manager Certification.

Known as Safe Plates for Food Managers, this program offers thorough food safety training. Held at their office in the Government Center, it equips managers with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate food safety regulations effectively.

A notable aspect of the program is its alignment with the American National Standards Institution approved Food Protection Manager Certification, highlighting the commitment of Cooperative Extension to providing high-quality food safety education.

Upon completion of the program, participants take the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals Food Manager Certification exam. This certification not only meets the FDA Food Code 2022 requirement for a Certified Food Protection Manager but also holds national recognition for five years.

Beyond compliance, graduates of Safe Plates for Food Managers become champions of food safety. They are prepared to create environments in restaurants, cafeterias, and grocery stores that minimize risks through best practices, clear communication, and careful implementation.

The program’s impact extends beyond individual businesses, contributing to a broader culture of food safety awareness in the community. This fosters trust and confidence in the local food industry, enhancing Jacksonville’s reputation as a culinary destination.
