Northampton County 4-H is excited to announce a series of engaging and educational workshops offered by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension – Northampton County Center. Workshop dates, times, and descriptions can be viewed below. Workshops will include:

For Cloverbuds

Ages 5-7

July 11 – 4-H Cloverbud Crafts from 9:00 -1:00

  • This craft workshop is for youth ages 5-7 years as of January 1, 2022. Youth will learn how to make several crafts that can be entered into the state fair. Bring a bag lunch. Waters and snacks will be provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 5-7 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 9

July 26-27 – 4-H Cloverbud Cooking from 9:00 -1:00

  • This cooking program is open to all cloverbuds, ages 5-7 years old as of January 1st, 2022. Youth will learn basic cooking & baking skills and make several delicious recipes. Snack and lunch provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 5-7 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 10

August 9  Outdoor Fishing from 9:00 -1:00

  • Join a fisherman on the banks of the river to spend a relaxing day fishing. Learn how to bait your hook, take your catch off the hook, bodies of water, tying knots, and so much more. This is sure to be a relaxing day on the banks of the river with some good fishing. Bring a bag lunch and sunscreen. Waters and snacks will be provided.
    • Ages: 5-7 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 9

For Trailblazers

Ages 8-13

June 21 – Junk Drawer Robotics from 9:00-3:00

  • Youth will participate in an activities where they will learn how to take simple household items and turn them into something that moves. Bring a bag lunch and creativity! Snack will be provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 10

June 23 – Blueberry Canning Camp from 9:00 – 3:00

  • Youth will take a trip to the blueberry patch in Halifax, NC and pick fresh blueberries. They will also learn about blueberry production and how they are grown. Back in the Extension office kitchen we will learn hands-on how to make homemade jam. Bring a bag lunch, sunscreen and hat. Waters and snacks will be provided.
    • Ages 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit 9

June 30 Cake Wars from 9:00 – 2:00

  • Join us as we learn all about cake decorating. Participants will get to learn and decorate a cake using professional techniques. Join the fun and take your creations home! Bring a bag lunch and creativity! Snack will be provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 12

June 26- July 1 – 4-H Camp at the Eastern 4-H Center

  • Canoeing, Archery, Marine Biology, Rock Walls, Swimming, these are just some of the fun activities waiting for you at 4‐H camp! Travel with us to the Eastern 4-­‐H Center for a week of fun times and new friends. You won’t want to miss this opportunity!
    • Ages 8-13 |Cost: $200 | Class Limit: 9

July 6 & 7 – Horse Camp from 9:00 – 3:00

  • During this two-day workshop youth will learn about horses, how to care for them and be given the opportunity to ride. Long pants and closed toes shoes required. Bring a bag lunch and sunscreen. Waters and snacks will be provided. Meet at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson and ride in van together to horse farm.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $50 | Class Limit: 10

July 13 – Carolina Mudcats Baseball Game –from 9:00  – 4:00

  • Join us for a fun day of baseball at a Carolina Mudcats Baseball game! The game starts at 11 a.m. Youth will need to bring money for lunch/ concessions they would like to purchase. Meet at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson and ride in van together to baseball stadium.
    • Ages: 8-18 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 9

July 14  – Hand Sewing and Cross Stitch Camp from 9:00a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

  • Learn all about basics of hand sewing and fancy stitches for embroidery and cross stitching. Bring a bag lunch and creativity! Waters and snacks will be provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 14

July 21-22 – State Parks Tour – from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

  • We will experience a different state park each day including: Medoc Mt. and Merchants Millpond. We will be doing a variety of activities daily such as hiking, water activities, canoeing, water quality, bugs and wildlife. Please pack a change of clothes daily with water shoes and extra shoes for hiking. Bring a bag lunch daily and sunscreen. Waters and snacks will be provided. Meet at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson and ride in van together.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 9

July 28-29 – 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen from 9:00- 2:00

  • Throughout this 2 day program, youth will learn several cooking skills and different recipes that they can make at home! With a fun chopped competition intermixed throughout. Snack and Lunch is provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 12

August 2-3 – Sewing 101 from 9:00- 3:00

  • During this program youth will learn the basics of sewing with a sewing machine and learn several different sewing techniques. Day two we will head to NCSU and tour the Wilson College of Textiles. Please bring your lunch and a creative mind! Snack will be provided. Class will be held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension office in Jackson and NCSU.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 6

August 5- Soap Making from 10:00-1:00

  • Scrub a dub dub; lets make soap for your tub. Ever wonder how the soap you bathe with every day is made? Join us to learn about the soap making process and make yourself a bar of soap you can take with you.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 |Class Limit: 10

August 8- Its Electric with Mr. Mason from 9:00- 2:00

  • Hey are you interested in electronics? Have you ever wanted to learn about circuit boards and how to make things work with one? Then sign up for the Electric Camp. Youth will learn how to make a circuit board and solder.
    • Ages: 8-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 10

For Teens

Ages 14-18

May 31 – Teen Leadership Training From 5:00-8:00

  • Would you like to enhance your leadership skills this summer by participating in our teen leadership program? Youth will do fun hands-on activities, team building, summer planning and helping run summer programing. After completion of this training and help with summer fun day programs you will earn a special trip to Kings Dominion at the end of the summer. Must participate in teen leader training and volunteer at 3 summer fun workshops to attend trip. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages 14-18 | Cost: Free | Class Limit: none

June 14-16- Citizenship Focus

  • North Carolina 4-H offers NC Citizenship Focus to young people interested in learning more about local and state government. Some of the conference highlights include: citizenship themed workshops, NC SPIN, panel discussions, distinguished speakers, a Legislative breakfast, and visits with elected officials. Please contact the office for an application.

Deadline for registration is May 13, 2022. Ages: 14-18 | Cost: $100 | Class Limit: 3

July 13 – Carolina Mudcats Baseball Game –from 9:00  – 4:00

  • Join us for a fun day of baseball at a Carolina Mudcats Baseball game! July 16-19  4-H Congress

  • North Carolina 4-H Congress is an event planned by elected 4-H Teens with leadership from the state 4-H Office. This is a youth development leadership, citizenship and life skill development program that includes fun workshops, dances, and so much more. Please call our office if your child is interested in going to 4-H Congress. This event is for all youth ages 13-18 years old as of January 1, 2022. Cost is TBD.

August 12-13  – Youth Voice

  • The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners partners with 4-H each year to host a youth summit for interested teens to increase their involvement in county government. Participants will learn how to become more involved, while interacting with local government officials. This year we will head to Cabarrus County. Please contact our extension office if you are interested in serving as the Northampton County representative.
    • Deadline to register is July 1st | Ages: 14-18 | Cost: Free | Class Limit: 1

For Everyone

Ages 5-13

June 28 – New to Nature from 9:00 – 3:00

  • Join us as we embark on a journey of new nature experiences and learn a little about the pioneer life style. Bring a bag lunch and ready to be outside! Snack will be provided. Held at the Northampton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Jackson.
    • Ages 5-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit 8

August 4- Birds Birds Birds from 9:00- 3:00

  • Join us for a fun day down at Sylvan Heights Bird park in Scotland Neck. We will meet over 200 species of birds as we tour around this wonderful park. Bring a bag lunch and sunscreen. Waters and snacks will be provided. We will meet at the Northampton County Extension office.
    • Ages 5-13 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: 9

August 6 – Agriculture Farm Safety Day from 10:00-2:00

  • Don’t be a stranger to danger learn about all the fun ways we protect ourselves on the farm.
    • Ages: 8-18 | Cost: $10 | Class Limit: none

August 11 – END OF SUMMER Block Party CELEBRATION from 10:00 – 2:00

  • Join us for our end of summer celebration with a day of water games, cookout & ice-cream! This event is open to all youth who participated in our 2022 summer fun program

Registration

To enroll in any 4-H Summer Program…

  • Fill out Registration form here
  • Youth must be enrolled on 4HOnline.
  • Turn in payment. Paid in cash (exact change only) or check to Northampton County Program Fund. 
  • Registration is first-come first-serve basis and is not complete without filling out required forms and turning in payment.
  • Please complete one form for each youth you are registering. Workshops are on a first-come first-serve basis. If classes fill up, you will be added to a wait-list.
  • No refunds will be given for Summer Fun programs except in the event of a cancellation by our office. All refunds will be processed at the conclusion of the entire summer fun program in August. Please allow 4 weeks from that time for checks to be processed.
  • Review the 4-H Code of Conduct with your child. 
  • Prior to each workshop, parents/guardians will receive an email or Text with program details.
